What is Mindset?
What do I mean by your “mindset”? Do we really have the ability to “set” our minds, or are they just set for life?
Your mindset is your regular habit of thought patterns. It includes both your subconscious and conscious beliefs about yourself, others and your life. It’s the internal director and programming for how you live your life.
What you regularly THINK (and this can be changed, thank God!), determines what you FEEL, how you BEHAVE, and therefore your RESULTS in life. Once you truly realize how it impacts everything you feel and do, there is no way you would NOT want to do everything within your power to make your mindset the BEST, helping you to live with not only happiness, but deep JOY, PURPOSE, and PASSION.
Another way to look at your mindset is to see it as the plot of land that the farmer or gardener (YOU) tends. When you choose to stay in your negative, self-destructive thought patterns or neglect your mindset, you continue to sow or allow weed seeds to grow unhindered in the soil of your mind and therefore in your life.
For example, do you regularly do any of the following? Do you put yourself down, blame others, compare yourself to others in a way that is self-destructive, worry about the future, regret the past or tell yourself that you or things in your life never get better, never change or are not worth any effort to change?
I hate to break the news, my friend, but you are sowing weed seeds in your mind, and you know what weed seeds produce??! WEEDS!!!
But what if you’re tired and sick of seeing and feeling all the weeds in your life? Then you’re on the right track to getting rid of them! Thankfully, you DO have a choice in whether they find fertile ground in your mind and therefore your life.
First you need to learn to be somewhat of a third party observer and realize what you’ve got growing there. Journaling, prayer, and/or meditation can be extremely useful here.
Finding a mentor or coach will help you observe your thought patterns, step up your game and hold yourself accountable.
If you start to realize you’re planting lots of weed seeds in your mind, you get to CHOOSE to COMMIT to planting and tending better seeds, ones that will produce the results you DESIRE.
With regular tending, attention, love and care to the right seeds, you are going to get the plants, flowers and fruits you desire, the GIFTS of your decision, commitment, and regular practice of sowing and tending to these better seeds.
